Best Deal Processing vs Always Apply

Go to Promo Help Home

Overview

When Promo validates a basket, it will apply promotions to the basket where promotions are available based on their valid to and from dates (and Timebands where appropriate), and also qualifies their validity based on Basket, Campaign/Coupon and Product criteria. In some cases, this can result in multiple promotions qualifying to be applied to the same lines in the basket. These promotions are regarded as overlapping, or conflicting. Conflicting promotions can be seen when editing a promotion by going to the Conflict Management tab.

As part of it's default Best Deal processing, Promo does not permit a line to be discounted more than once by any line-level promotion, or more than once by any basket level promotion. Promo uses the common approach of not allowing any promotion to be used in conjunction with any other promotion. By default, all promotions are processed as part of the Best Deal processing.

Always Apply Promotions

Promo optionally allows the user to select promotions to be processed outside of the Best Deal processing. These promotions are still qualified on the same basis as the Best Deal process. Promotions which are flagged as Always Apply will be applied to the basket before or after the Best Deal promotions, regardless of any overlap that they may have with any other promotions.

Can I define when an Always Apply promotion will be applied to a basket?

All line level promotions will be applied before the best deal processing.
Issue Voucher, Issue Points, Add Free Product(s) and Delivery Reduction promotion types are applied after the best deal processing.
Basket % or Value off promotions can be applied before or after the best deal processing.

What prices will be used for Always Apply promotions?

Promotions flagged as Always Apply before the Best Deal will use the prices provided with the basket. Each promotion will be layered on top of the previous.

The Best Deal processing will then use the net prices calculated after all previously applied discounts.

Promotions flagged as Always Apply after the Best Deal will use the net prices calculated after all previously applied discounts. Each promotion will be layered on top of the previous.

Promotions which discount one or more lines (whether Always Apply or Best Deal) will only be applied where the lines they are discounting have a net total value greater than zero.

Promotions may be partially applied where the calculated net price of a line is less than the discount amount. A line will never be discounted such that its net total value is less than zero. This mechanism will prevent any discounted basket resulting in a negative total value.

How do I indicate a promotion will be Always Applied?

To select a promotion as being Always Apply tick the box available on the Basket Information tab when editing the promotion. Where available, select the When to apply? option to indicate whether the promotion should be applied before or after the Best Deal processing.
